“As a landscape artist, my intent is to share what I find so captivating about the environment I live in. I think of my work as abstracted landscapes. I’m fascinated by the random patterns of colors and textures in the microcosms of the natural world around me. I paint in both oil and pastel and frequently paint the same scene in both mediums. Occasionally I paint plein air but I prefer to work in my studio using my photographs and memory as a starting point and from there, the paintings develop in unexpected ways and take on their own life. My landscapes are not about replicating an image, but conveying what interests me most whether it be the colors, light, texture, atmosphere or mood, it's finding the essence of that scene and sharing what I found to be so captivating. My hope is the viewer experiences that sensation when an image strikes a chord and their own memories are revived.”
