Andrea Murrell

Director of Nursing

To be a nurse at Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center (CS-HHC) means being able to embody the true calling and purpose of the nursing profession – to provide exceptional care to some of our community’s most vulnerable populations every day.

Here, nursing is transformed from a career into a mission rooted in deep community outreach, an unwavering commitment to healthcare access for everyone, and a passion for driving positive health outcomes.

Nurses at Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center show up every day knowing that what they do truly makes a difference, transforming lives and uplifting the entire New Haven community one patient at a time through deep empathy and trust.

As the Director of Nursing at CS-HHC, I am dedicated to the continuous education and professional development of our nursing, investing in educational partnerships, professional development, leadership opportunities, and empowering our nurses to practice at the highest level of their license with confidence and autonomy.

When we nurture our staff's intellectual and professional growth, we not only elevate the standard of exceptional, culturally responsive care delivered to our community, but we also cultivate a rewarding, supportive work environment where nurses feel truly valued and inspired to stay.

Hear From Our Nurses

  • How do you connect with the mission of CSHHC and community healthcare? And why is it important for an organization to have employees that connect with the mission?

I have been an RN for 35 years. I have worked in Public health for 27 years and in the hospital setting for 10 years. Working at CSHHC in the past 3 years has allowed me to continue to follow a lifelong passion of working in pediatrics and to reach a wide community of people that I identify with and care deeply for. As a Hispanic Nurse, I deal daily with patients who appreciate and feel they are getting excellent health care because there is someone who understands their culture and speaks their language. I regularly speak Spanish and Portuguese to assist in providing high standards of care.

  • What makes management and the executive team at CSHHC different from other organizations?

Management at CSHHC has created a climate that fosters professional growth and respects all team members. I have felt part of a team that has become my work family. I have felt comfortable being able to express my concerns and ideas to my manager.

  • What would be one thing you would want potential candidates to know about CSHHC?

CSHHC is a great place to continue to grow and to enjoy a professional climate that values your experience and your hard work.

  • How has working at CSHHC helped your professional career and what is one aspect of your job you value the most?

Working at CSHHC has provided me opportunities for leadership, personal growth and an opportunity to follow my passion for working in pediatrics.

  • How do you connect with the mission of CSHHC and community healthcare? And why is it important for an organization to have employees that connect with the mission?

CSHHC has been a staple in the community for more than 55 years and it is because we have always provided passionate care. Being a part of this legacy is something I personally connect with because it allows me to focus on why I became a nurse: compassion. To me, compassion means recognizing the suffering of others and then taking action to help. Being a part of CSHHC allows me to take action to truly help the underserved in my community. Connecting with the mission of the company makes the work more enjoyable and in turn, provides better patient outcomes.

  • What would be one thing you would want potential candidates to know about CSHHC?

I would like potential candidates to know that working here allows you to be a part of something that is greater than yourself.  You genuinely feel connected to the work and get to see the difference you make in the lives of your patients.

  • How has working at CSHHC helped your professional career and what is one aspect of your job you value the most?

Working at CSHHC has completely set the standard for my professional career. It has given me the experience of genuinely making a difference in my community and allows me to help the groups of people who often need it the most. I love seeing positive health outcomes in our patients that I have directly contributed to.  The part of my job I value the most is the hands-on and patient-centered approach that we have with our patients and the interpersonal relationships I have made with my coworkers, who have become my family.
